Panic attack symptoms can be varied and unpredictable. Panic attacks have been called some of the most frightening experiences that one can go through. Many people experiencing panic attack symptoms for the first time believe that they are dying or having a heart attack. It’s quite common for victims of panic attacks to go to the emergency room several times before finally discovering the true cause of their symptoms.

One of the most common panic attack symptoms is chest pain. Some also have an increased heart rate, or an irregular heartbeat. These can be accompanied by a tingling sensation in the arms, legs, or other body parts, as well as difficulty breathing. It’s no surprise that most people experiencing their first panic attack thinks that they’re having a heart attack.

There are several panic attack symptoms involving the digestive tract. Nausea is common before, during, and after attacks. Some people may vomit, and the fear of vomiting can actually cause the attack to worsen. General stomach pains and cramps may occur.

When you have a panic attack, you may feel disoriented and confused. Many people complain of feeling dizzy or lightheaded, or feeling out of control. Panic attack symptoms can include a feeling of unreality, as if you aren’t real, the attack is happening to someone else, or you aren’t connected to your body. These feelings can be quite unsettling.

Sweating and hot flashes are common panic attack symptoms. Your face, chest, or other areas may turn red. The heat and difficulty breathing makes you want to remove or loosen clothing, but when you do so they still aren’t relieved.

Other panic attack symptoms are feelings of foreboding or doom, sudden and extreme fear with no reasonable cause, and feeling like you are about to die. These are very frightening and may increase with subsequent panic attacks.

It’s important to understand that every person experiences their anxiety disorder differently. Two people may both have an anxiety disorder, but their panic attack symptoms can be quite different. Even your own attacks may be different from each other. Some will last longer, be more severe, or give less warning signs.

Panic attack symptoms can be strange and illogical as well. Uncontrollable thoughts, muscle twitches and tics, and difficulty concentrating are common early signals of impending panic attacks. It’s important that you and your loved ones pay attention to how your episodes differ or change over time. You may be able to determine certain early signals that indicate an attack is imminent. If so, you can take advantage of the opportunity to get to a safe place and call for help if needed.

One thing you can remember about panic attack symptoms is that they will stop in a little while. During a panic attack, you are frightened. You may be able to ease the severity of an attack but you can’t make it stop until it’s ready. The lack of control can be frustrating. Keep reminding yourself that your panic attack symptoms will go away in a few minutes.

The most important thing you need to know is that panic attack symptoms are similar to those of other conditions. Always let your doctor know about your attacks. They may decide to look for other conditions that can feel similar to a panic attack. Also, if you see a doctor about symptoms that you don’t think are related to your anxiety disorder, be sure that they know you have had panic attacks in the past. All of your doctors need to know about all of your symptoms and conditions to be able to serve you appropriately.
